I moved into the studio in April this year, and have spent the last 7 months creating the new furniture for the studio in collaboration with my sister, Yui Yamaguchi who’s trained in industrial design and woodworking in Japan, to make this vision come true – a space that functions as my art studio, showroom and a workshop. People can learn, create and share the beauty of Japanese calligraphy, combining traditional and modern methods in the a tranquil and nurturing space. I designed the space inspired by the calligraphy school where I studied Japanese calligraphy throughout my childhood, and the nature of my hometown Hokkaido, embracing the warmth of wood highlighting the beauty of its grains and natural edges. I will keep working on updating the studio space in the coming months, but I’d love to open the door and share where I’m at now before the end of the year of 2024.
I will have a selected series of art pieces from the past and new collections, prints and stationaries will be available for sale just in time for the holidays, and you can learn more about and sign up for upcoming classes in 2025.
